your music is original, elegant, innovative, and
exquisitely feminine... i don't know exactly what it is
that makes it so feminine... the sound somehow evokes
colors, not unlike those of your paintings...
i got your album from itunes and have recommended
your site to friends of mine who might be interested.
please pursue your research!

... your voice has the atmospheric quality of the Cocteau Twins or Souxie (of the Banchees). The world needs more vocalists like you who believe in the power of their own style and write their own work. -- Michael from Bangor, Wales, United Kingdom

...If I had to describe it in an abbreviated fashion, I would say that if Elizabeth Fraser, Bjork,
and Sheila Chandra (And perhaps some other ghosts that
don't come to mind at the moment) were to morph into one
person and one voice and re-interpret "Across the
Universe" in an entirely new way, then this might
describe it. The alto melancholy vocal drone etched with
the overlapped seductive nuances and whispers is
simultaneously calming but unnerving. Not only did I
appreciate the music, but it complements the art
perfectly. I love the fire art photos, but the portraits
with the prominent trance eyes with a hint of anger are
wonderfully done. Of course, I am partial to the Cat
acrylic on canvas. You are a wonderful seamstress of
sound and vision. Like a beautiful dirge if there is
such a thing. I am impressed. Bright Blessings to you. -- Rod from San Lorenzo, California
[02 July 2007] Review of debut CD "Ineffable Desire" by Desmond Ambrose:
I was really very impressed
with this album. I'm happy I took the chance on it after
hearing some of the songs on Myspace. My reward is a
truly fun and enjoyable listen. Ineffable Desire is VERY
interesting! Ella's voice is sheer bliss, comparable to
the passion and ingenuity of P.J. Harvey combined with
the delicate smoothness of Elizabeth Fraser. Those only
being starting points as Ineffable Desire is quite
original. The music is wonderfully complimentary to
Ella's voice and avoids all mainstream clichés, much
like Goldfrapp, but in very different ways. This is a
very beautiful and refreshing record, its wonderfully
recorded- the sound is awesome, and it felt good, for
me, to support the artist.
[February 2007] Review of debut
CD "Ineffable Desire" by Curtis Reed:
Ella Blame's album, Ineffable Desire, is a very good
collection of hypnotic beats and ethereal female vocals.
The music is very reminiscent of Siouxie and the
Banshees, Cocteau Twins, or Bjork, with a slight hint of
Dead Can Dance. But that is not to say that Ella's songs
are "derivative"--I think it's fair to say that this
artistic expression stands solidly on its own. All in
all, it's a very good production, quite pleasant
listening, and has a certain cinematic quality that
would make her music fit nicely in independent films.
[05 February 2007] Review of song "How Things Have Changed", Double Take:
A real tripping production that dances around the song and weaves in and out like honeysuckle climbing the fence. A pleading vocal sticks desparately between the airy musical layers building an irresistable slice of psycedelica.
[05 February 2007] Review of
song "Dance With Me", Double Take:
A song to peep at from behind the sofa - it's after you like a Pop
Siren on a mission of persuasion - can you survive the powerful lure of this unusual and artistic composition?
[12 December 2006] Review of song "How Things Have Changed", Furtive Wangler's Playlist/Episode 6:
Ella Blame sounds like nobody else I've heard before. This song is a bit of a departure for this podcast because I think it's probably the first piece of all electronic music I've played. But you need to turn up the volume, turn off the lights and it transports you to another time and planet. Marvellous stuff.
[November 2006] Review @ Catsask Music & Entertainment
Truly hypnotic and very trippy, Ella Blame brings in a modern day 60's era style of kaleidoscopic sounds and vibrations. The new hippy music is born. Miss Blame covers her extremely "out there" sounds with a mesmerizing and funky vocal barrage that leaves us wanting more. Who is the owner of this haunting and unnerving voice? Who is it that leaves us in this zone of wonder? Ella Blame...
[20 July 2006] by Jeff Dame, northeastintune
Ella Blame’s music is very hypnotic; it takes your mind
places that you never knew existed. Her voice has a
calming effect in some of her songs and in others it
sends a chill down your spine. If you listen to her
songs, turn off the lights and anything that makes
background noise and just relax and listen. Clear your
mind. I have listened to her songs for 3 days before I
wrote this review; it feels as though it has brought an
inner peace to me. I turn off the lights, all other
background noise and just close my eyes. There is
serenity to Ella’s voice and tranquility to the
accompanying music. Take the time to listen to her
music, it is worth it.
[07 May 2006] Review
of song "Last View" by Brian Ralston, Mixposure:
This is eerily superb.
Great vocal performance and diversity. Ranges from
seductive and sensual to downright scary. Love the
production and the theatrics employed. It's almost
Marlene Dietrich in parts, and touches of Kate Bush
elsewhere. Having said that, this is an incredibly
original piece of musical theatre. And despite its
originality it's incredibly catchy.
[April 2006] Review of
debut CD "Ineffable Desire" @ Unsigned Music Magazine:
Will I ever take Ella Blame
out of my Mac? Yes, but only after I've imported it into
iTunes so that I can listen to it over and over again.
The groove on this album ist tight! The track How
Things Have Changed has this silky, sliding
bass groove playing throughout that just hypnotizes
you...

I
remember the first time I heard an Ella Blame song: I
was listening to the music at songramp.com and suddenly
something extraordinary jumped through the speakers... There was a time
when there seemed to be magic coming from the records of
the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Siouxsie and others.
That magic lives on in Ella Blame. |
